Again, as someone not big into spirits when I was drinking, I have never tried an alcoholic shiraz gin so I don’t have this point of reference for the new Monday Rouge Fizz which is Sammy’s take on that very beverage. Google tells me that a shiraz gin is a gin soaked in shiraz grapes, it gives it the brilliant red tones.

While Sam likes to have a play with her cocktails and put her individual spin on things, it seems like she’s gone for quite a like-for-like representation here.

On the nose I am getting definite plum and spice. Flavour-wise I feel like the focus is on warming spice, you get a little drop of caramel, there is the hint of juniper and the shiraz profile is really very subtle. I think overall this is on the subtle side, you do loose a little bit of the depth when you forgo the sugar. The flavours are complex, interesting and enjoyable, I just wish they were a little more intense.
