Description
This wine I picked up when doing a little recce in Dan Murphy’s recently to see if their range had improved (it hadn’t but I think that’s about to change now they see the potential)
It’s a very cheep and cheerful bottle from the powerhouse brand (that I’ve only just heard about)Freixenet.
What can I say, apart from surprisingly, this is not too bad. I was honestly expecting to pour it straight down the sink. But it’s certainly not too sweet. If anything I would say that it’s almost too on the tart side, quite acidic in fact. There’s not much depth to it and there is a strange lingering aftertaste that I can’t quite put my finger on, but on the whole it’s not overly offensive. For the price of the bottle it would be great for a spritz.
It’s carbonated and the bead in it disappeared really quickly and if you have any regard for what’s in your wine, the ingredients list reads like something out of a horror movie, so this may not be for you. If you are in a pinch and have to resort to Dan’s I would choose this over McGuigan’s Sparkling any day.
